The Tool Shed will be a new exciting participatory installation sited at the Guildhall Museum in Rochester. The shed inspired by museum''''''''s 18th century Seaton Tool Chest will house a collection of wire sculptural tools made by myself and fellow participatory ''''''''tool makers.'''''''' The collection will build over the life of the installation through a series of workshops and open days, during which I will be in residence within the shed making wire tools.

The Tool Shed will also act as a zone where tool stories are exchanged and documented. Hand tools used by the community will also be collected and displayed to sit alongside the installation.

My installation is part of museumaker, a national partnership between makers, museums and visitors involving 16 museums across the country. Between 22nd May-early July the shed can be viewed in working process. Between mid-July to the end of August it can be viewed in it''''''''s completed state. Open days will be on 5, 6, 10,11,13, 19, 20, 29, 30 June 2010.

Women of Mettle brings together contemporary female makers who explore domestic, decorative, sculptural and narrative concerns within the art of metalwork and silversmithing.

Exhibitors include Frances Brennan, Kate Samuels, Cathy Miles, Suzanne Wall and Ane Christensen.

Create your own small metal sculpture using iron wire and found materials. Techniques include drawing in wire using pliers and soldering. You start on set projects while techniques are demonstrated, and then progress on to your own work.
