Useless Tools

Useless Tools were a series made in 2007/8, funded through a Longhouse Artist Action Research Bursary and exhibited in an old working foundry in Munich. The exhibition was entitled 'In response to…’ the exhibiting artists included Helen Carnac, David Clarke, Simone ten Hompel, Asato Kamiyama, Lin Cheung & Hans Stofer

The tool pieces grew from collecting stories and potted histories from the tradesmen in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter, specifically in relation to their hand tools. Seen here are three hammers entitled basher, lightweight and shrunk. These pieces planted seeds of an idea for the forthcoming Tool Shed installation.

Come and visit The Tool Shed at the Guildhall Museum, Rochester and see how this idea has expanded and developed. 22nd May - end August 2010. See events page for detailed dates and information.
